2006 The Narcissist Syrah

Description

This wine is called the Narcissist because it is unashamedly and unabashedly all about itself. This wine three HUGE barrels that seemed they wanted to go togetther. This is a Big Syrah for people that like Big Syrahs. If you don't like a lot of expensive new heavy toast French Oak (Francois Ferrer in this case) and lots of structure and body - don't buy this wine. But if you are looking for something massive to have with that 2 1/2" Rib Eye - this may be just the thing. This wine was in oak for 18 months and then in bottle for 8 more months, but it still needs lot of air upon opening (splash into a water pitcher if you have one) to take that young wine edge off. Although we have no past experience on which to gauge this wines longevity, we think it will only improve for many years to come.

Delicious, with pure, ripe Syrah fruit and a medley of plum and dark berry flavors that are firm, intense and full-bodied. Picks up white and black pepper and ends with a smooth texture and a long, persistent finish.

The 2006 Syrah the Narcissist Dry Stack Vineyard is a powerful, backward, tightly-knit, full-bodied wine displaying a dense ruby/purple color along with sweet cassis and blackberry notes intermixed with tar and pepper. An earthy, meaty, tannic Syrah, it will benefit from another year of bottle age, and should drink well for a decade.

Teh 2006 Narcissist Syrah - appropriately named because it is indeed all about itself - is a huge wine, viscous, ripe, toasty and potent, at 15.5 percent alcohol. Yet the weight adn alcohol are balanced by firm tanninsand refreshing acidity. The grapes were alloed to get riper than those used in the Marie's Block Syrah, and the Narcissist lots were aged longer, in new, heavy-toast Francois Freres French oak barrels. [Grapes for the 06 Narcissist were harvested at the same time as those for Marie's block]
