I met Chris Bowland (the most honest, earnest and ethical man in Sonoma County), in 2003 when he was teaching the organic viticulture class at Santa Rosa Junior College. I hired him to manage our vineyard in 2004 and slowly he has taken on almost 200 acres of vineyard in Bennett Valley.

Chris' efforts in the vineyard are the foundation of Grey Stack's wine. He has helped get us through the difficult years like '05, '07and '09 and has never let us down. We feel Chris' contributions to Grey Stack are so important we put him on the back label.

Chris is also one of the leading organic vineyard managers in Sonoma County. Although Grey Stack is no longer organic [link to sustainable section], Chris helps us in making the many nuanced decisions that help us farm Dry Stack Vineyard as softly and as environmentally friendly as possible.
